Modern Tyres Continue Title Sponsorship of The Mourne Rally

At a recent press launch held by Newry and Mourne District Motor Club, Des O’Loan from the Motor Club announced that the event to be held on Saturday 11th June would continue to be sponsored by Ireland’s largest independent tyre retailers, Modern Tyres.

The event is nine years with their title sponsorship, the company has two depots in Newry and a total of 41 depots in Ireland.

This year’s event will start from the Modern Tyres depot in Carnbane Industrial Estate at 9.30 on the Saturday morning followed by 9 stages on closed public roads around Newtownhamilton, Whitecross and Loughgilly using some classic old Circuit of Ireland stages. Service will be at the old Custom House yard in Carnbane with cars finishing up at Dan Gregory’s Bar on the Camlough Road, Newry where a prize giving will be held.

The event is round 4 of the Carryduff Forklift MSA ANICC Northern Ireland Stage Rally Championship and the club is expecting a strong entry. Some of the leading championship contenders have already expressed intent to compete on the event along with some of the quickest locals including Jim Feenan of Formula Karting, Andrew Patterson in his G3 Escort and Christopher Simms with Davy Armstrong in their MkII Escorts. Winston Henry’s car BIB 8888 will be in attendance and competing. This car is a well known car both here and far afield. It will be driven by Andrew simms and Barbara Simms, secretary of Newry and District Motor Club, who will be co-driving along with her husband. They acquired the car just over 18 months ago. Scrutiny will take place at the premises of Modern Tyre in Carnbane Industrial Estate on Friday evening for local crews and Saturday morning for those travelling from further afield. Scrutiny will be open to the public. More event information is available from the clubs website www.nadmc.co.uk
