Modern Tyres Help McGladery Commercials Cut Costs

When Belfast based McGladery Commercials wanted to streamline their tyre management process to make it more efficient and cost effective they had no hesitation calling in Modern Tyre Service.

With a rental fleet of around 100 commercial vehicles on the road, ranging from 1.5 tonne vans to 18 tonne rigids, McGladery Commercials annual tyre bill is significant, so anything that can help cut overheads is welcomed.

Director John McGladery says they were attracted to the Modern Tyre Service management programme because of it offered  a ‘superb and dependable support package,’ and he adds: “It makes good commercial business sense.”

Comments Operations Manager Campbell Keatings: “We particularly like the fact that the programme incorporates a clearly defined audit trail and that we receive regular tyre management reports, detailing spend per vehicle per month, all of which helps us keep our costs in check and our rental fleet on the road.”

More organised
Up until recently, McGladery Commercials tyre management was a little fragmented. “It worked okay for us, but bringing Modern Tyres on board has made the process much more organised and easier to manage,” says Campbell. “We looked at a number of other tyre companies; in fact, we put the contract out to tender. Modern Tyres produced the most attractive proposal and we are delighted with the service we are getting from them.”

And commented Rental Manager Martin Drumm: “The response time from Modern Tyres is exceptional. On any occasions we have had the need to call them out, they’ve been there in double quick time, and that’s vital because customers do not like to suffer any unnecessary downtime, especially in the current climate.”

Price savings
“We are delighted that McGladery Commercials have chosen our services,” says Modern Tyre Service’s Group Sales & Marketing Manager Stephen Shaw. “We deal direct with all major tyre manufacturers and have a comprehensive stock holding at any given time of upwards of 100,000 tyres, so availability is never a problem.

“Because of our strong buying power, we are able to pass on any price savings directly to our customers, and McGladery Commercials are already seeing the benefits,” adds Stephen. “And with 26 centres throughout Northern Ireland, backed up with 30 emergency breakdown vans stationed across the province, and a network of third party operatives in the Republic, our customers are never far away from the services of a highly trained technician if it is needed.”
