Free Tyre Safety Checks for Tyre Safety Month at
Modern Tyre Service

TyreSafe has welcomed the support for the second year of National Tyre Safety month from Modern Tyres, ’s leading tyre retailer. The company had been offering motorists that called into any one of their 26 outlets a free tyre safety and pressure check as part of this important road safety initiative.

Modern Tyres has been a long time supporter of tyre safety campaigns in initiated over many years by the Tyre Industry Council which has now become TyreSafe. Tyre Safety Month runs through until the end of October and will underline to drivers the increased risk of being involved in a road collision

Modern Tyre Service  set up three tyre safety clinics as part of their campaign, these were held on Monday 13th October at Tesco’s supermarket Ballymena,  Wednesday 15th October at  Asda’s supermarket Strabane and  Friday 17th October Quays Shopping Centre Newry.

These clinics are designed to raise awareness and focus on the dangers of driving vehicles with defective, badly worn and under-inflated tyres. The key danger to drivers should tyre tread depth fall below the legal minimum of 1.6mm or are badly worn or severely under-inflated is the increased risk of skidding and an accident. In a nationwide tyre pressure survey undertaken by TyreSafe supporters it was found that almost three quarters of cars on the road are running on tyres that are under inflated. In addition to the safety dangers, under-inflated tyres use more fuel and pump more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

The law requires that tyres have a minimum of 1.6mm of tread.  A driver of a car or van found to have a defective tyre or tyres could face a £2,500 fine and penalty points on their driving licence.
