Flying Finish For Rory Byrne in Wexford
Rory Byrne from Warrenpoint has ended his 2008 rallying campaign on a high by finishing 3rd in the Midlands East Irish Rally Championship.
The popular 6 round Championship which consists of 3 Multi Stage and 3 Mini stage Rallies makes it an ideal format for the Clubman competitor. The Championship kicked off back in February with Birr and District Motor Club hosting the first round. The next round was hosted by Midland Motor Club on 6th April. Up next was the North East Mini Stages on 2nd June followed by the ALMC stages on the 6th July. The penultimate round was the Castle Mini stages on the 24 August and last weekend the final round was the GSMC Mini Stages based in Wexford.
After a non finish on the first two rounds due to mechanical failure the pressure was on for Rory and his co-driver Jeremy Patterson who works alongside Rory in his Modern Tyre Service business based in Carnbane to make their mark. The duo recovered in excellent style to record valuable class points in the remaining rounds to give them a well earned 3rd overall in the Championship. Who knows what way things could have finished if they had been able to scored points in the first two rounds… but that’s rallying!!
