Karting Night Raises Over £1000 for Southern Area Hospice

Formula Karting in Newry was the venue for Newry and District Motor Clubs fundraising night for the Southern Area Hospice. The night also provided the platform for Des O’Loan Chairman of the club to announce details of the forth coming Modern Tyre Service Mourne Rally taking place on Saturday 7th June which is attracting huge interest from both sides of the border and is set to have a record breaking entry with some of the quickest car in Ireland competing. 

Over 50 members of the motor club and representatives from Modern Tyre Service sponsors of the Mourne Rally took advantage of the fantastic facilities at Formula Karting   to raise £1050 for the Southern Area Hospice. John Jones from the Hospice received the cheque and commented “Its great to see an event like this so well attended and we are delighted to receive this cheque which will make a difference for a lot of people.”

The racing was fast and furious with a lot of reputations on the line. In the end it was Killian Murphy who took the top prize followed by Philip Henry and Philip Armstrong.

The Modern Tyre Service Mourne Rally will take place on Saturday the 7th June starting in the morning from Modern Tyre Service in Carnbane Industrial Estate. The drivers will then tackle 12 stages that include some familiar classics including Slieve Gullion, Camlough and Cooley Mountain . Service will be in Carnbane Industrial Estate with cars finishing up at the Carrickdale Hotel where the prize giving will be held. Scrutiny will take place at the premises of Modern Tyre Service in Carnbane Industrial Estate on Friday evening which will be open to the public.
