Vredestein expands its all-season tyre range with the new Quatrac 3

  • World first: the first all-season RunFlat tyre
  • Available from September

At the end of this summer Vredestein will launch the new Quatrac 3 series to expand its all-season tyre range. This new Quatrac 3 tyre distinguishes itself optically with its asymmetric tread and is non-directional. Another striking characteristic is that the summer and winter profile sections in the tread are clearly differentiated. The Quatrac 3 will become available from September. At its debut Vredestein will offer two RunFlat variants – an absolute world first for all-season tyres.

For discerning motorists the new Vredestein Quatrac 3 is a very attractive choice - not only in visual terms. As it is an all-season tyre, there is no more reason for the twice annual change between summer and winter tyres. “The Vredestein Quatrac 3 is a first-rate alternative for countries without extreme driving conditions like snow-covered, icy roads or steep hills,” Bert Stellinga, Managing Director Vredestein and , explained. “In plain or gently sloping areas and in temperate climates, the Quatrac 3 is the all-season tyre of choice. It offers optimum ride and grip characteristics under all circumstances."

Summer and winter in one tyre

The asymmetric, non-directional tread design of the new Vredestein Quatrac 3 is its most striking feature. The Quatrac 3 shows a clearly distinctive inner and outer side when mounted on the wheel. The outer part of the tread is designed for optimum performance under dry and wet conditions, while the inner tread section offers the grip necessary for winter. Better yet: the Vredestein Quatrac 3 even offers a further improved performance on snowy roads. Thanks to three longitudinal grooves in its tread, which are not only for show, a very efficient dispersion results.

The summer section of the Quatrac 3 is characterized by a lower air ratio (more rubber, less air) as well as a limited number of transversal grooves. Under summer conditions this effects an additional grip of the external tread shoulder – on wet as well as on dry surfaces. In contrast, the inner part of the Quatrac 3 features wavy grooves which ensure an increased grip on snow and optimum safety in winter. As a consequence this new Vredestein all-season tyre carries not only the M&S symbol but also “snow-flake” coding, certifying that the Quatrac 3 meets the official stipulations for a fully-fledged winter tyre. In other words, these tyres can be used in in winter when winter tyres are legally compulsory.

World first: the first all-season RunFlat tyre

In September the new Vredestein all-season Quatrac 3 will make its debut in a large number of European countries. The first models of this tyre will be available with ‘V’ speed code. With this new model series, foreseen for September, Vredestein offers two Quatrac 3 RunFlat tyres – a true innovation for all-season tyres. The Quatrac 3 RunFlat tyre features an extra reinforcement (insert) in the tyre walls. In addition its heel construction is reinforced to ensure that the tyre stays on the rim even if pressure is lost. However, the comfort remains unaffected and top-notch. In case pressure is lost, the Quatrac 3 RunFlat tyre still allows speeds of up to 50 mph (80 km/h). Depending on the load it can then still cover up to 50 miles (80 km).

In 2007 the Vredestein Quatrac 3 will be available in nine sizes with speed code ‘V’ (up to 149 mph, 240 km/h) – two of which are RunFlat tyres.
