Modern Tyres Support Truck Convoy
[30 May 2007]

TRUCKERS TO CIRCLE LOUGH ERNE
Hugo Duncan and Marie Curie Nurse of the Year Imelda Mc Gucken are the driving force behind this, years Convoy of Fermanagh. This event is now an integral part of the Lady of the
Lake
Festival , in Irvinestown Co Fermanagh, and for the seventh year will again raise much needed funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
You may be aware of this huge event or have wondered what it’s all about and how you and your truck can become part of the biggest truck convoy in the land. When you consider the 60 mile circuit of beautiful countryside through which the event takes place, is there anything like it in
Europe or even the world!
The trucks will set off at 2.30pm on Sunday 22nd July, and leading the convoy will be Hugo Duncan driving a Scania truck owned by event organizer George Gordon from GS Gordon and Sons, Lisburn Co Down.
The Bawnacre Leisure Centre car park and facilities will be available to drivers, to park up from Friday evening onwards and avail of all the music, craic and hospitality on offer. The highlight is the driver’s BBQ and dance on Saturday evening where music is provided by Hugo Duncan and his band, which will take place in a marquee again this year. Helicopter rides will also be available to view this spectacular site from the air.
Hugo Duncan said “I would appeal to all those very generous drivers out there to sign up now and give themselves plenty of time to get sponsored to take part. Also for companies who have never taken part before to send vehicles along. Last year 323 trucks took part in the convoy raising in the region of £33,000. This year we hope to increase the number and raise even more money for such a worthy cause.”
This year Modern Tyre Service have teamed up with Marie Curie to help sponsor the event. Speaking about the announcement Stephen Shaw, Group Sales and Marketing Manager for Modern Tyre Service said "We are delighted to be involved in this event which is getting bigger and bigger ever year, raising valuable funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. We are looking forward to working with Hugo, George and Joe and the Marie Curie Team to provide any support we can that will help the event become an even bigger success".
The funds raised from the event will ensure Marie Curie Cancer Care can provide high quality nursing, totally free, to give terminally ill people the choice of dying at home supported by their families. Last year Marie Curie Cancer Care provided 53, 984 hours of nursing care to 844 patients in
.
